I started the male myth series after reading an article on how myth was used as propaganda even in Ancient Greek times. Women warriors were portrayed as a homicidal infanticides in the myth of the Amazons. Eve, and Pandora were both culpably evil, or if innocent, stupid. Medusa, Harpies and the Circe were relentlessly vengeful and spiteful. Only Artemis had some virtues, but then she was born from Zeus 's head, so she was able to have the 'masculine' virtues of resilience, loyalty and skill.
Instead of reclaiming these mythic women as heroines, I wanted to make them more decisive, showing all the negative aspects of their acts but also how they were enjoying their revenge.
This work led me to investigate the role of the Goddess in Contemporary feminism, and also the role of the Muse in women's art in the series An Artist Looking for Her Muse.
